In Their Own Words
Farah Zainuddin
Petaling Jaya, Selangor
I did the Smart Saving Habits Course after reading about it on Instagram. Honestly, I wasn't sure what to expect — I've tried budgeting apps before and always stopped after a week. This was different. The goals worksheet actually made me sit down and think about what I was saving for, which I'd never really done properly. The material is short enough that I could do a bit each evening after work.
June 2025 — Smart Saving Habits Course
Rajan Murugesan
Cheras, Kuala Lumpur
The workshop sessions were really well run. The facilitator was patient and never made me feel like I was behind compared to others in the group. I liked that we all shared our own situations and there was no judgment at all. My one wish is that there were more sessions — five weeks went fast. I've kept using the saving categories framework since I finished, which I think is the point.

I've taken a few online personal finance courses before and they all felt very generic — like they were made for someone in the UK or US. Saverly actually felt Malaysian. The examples made sense to me. The Complete Program was a serious commitment but I found the check-ins genuinely helpful — having someone ask how things were going every few weeks kept me honest without making me feel stressed.

I was slightly nervous about joining a group session since money topics feel private. But the facilitator set the tone early — we didn't have to share exact numbers, just our goals and approach. That made a big difference. By the end of the workshop I had a saving plan for the first time in my adult life that actually felt like mine.

The course content itself was very clearly written — I could tell someone had thought carefully about the order things were introduced. I appreciated that the tone was calm and didn't hype things up. No one was pretending that saving a bit more each month would change my life overnight. It was just practical and sensible.

I did the Complete Program and the part I found most valuable was the community space. It's easy to feel like you're the only one who struggles with this stuff, but being in a group with people at similar stages helped enormously. The saving toolkit is something I still use — the jar categories idea especially. It sounds simple but it works for how my brain organises things.

Participant Journeys
A closer look at how some participants moved from where they started to where they wanted to be.
Wan Hazwani
Administrative Officer, Kuala Lumpur
The Situation
Wan Hazwani was saving a small amount each month but had no clear idea what it was for. She felt like money was disappearing without any sense of progress — and occasional larger purchases would wipe out months of effort.
The Program
She joined the Saving with Purpose Workshop. Over 5 weeks, she worked through goal identification, split her savings into categories, and built a simple monthly review habit using the checklist.
Three Months Later
She now has separate saving categories for her emergency fund, a family trip she's planning, and a personal goal. "I haven't changed how much I put aside — I've just finally given it a destination."
Muhammad Farhan
Freelance Designer, Puchong
The Situation
Variable income made regular saving feel impossible for Muhammad Farhan. He'd tried setting fixed amounts but found that good months didn't add much and difficult months wiped out everything he'd put aside.
The Program
He completed the Complete Saving Strategies Program. The facilitator check-ins helped him adapt the jar framework to a percentage-based approach that worked with fluctuating income rather than fighting it.
Six Months Later
His saving approach now scales naturally with what he earns. Quiet months don't undo the habit entirely. "I stopped thinking of saving as something I'd do properly once I had a stable income. I started doing it now, just differently."
